This past NYFW, BCBG Max Azria Fall Collection included some pretty majoy Blasts from the Past:
Lovers of Vintage, brace yourself. BCBG is Bringing Back the Muff! (Hallelujah! Finally!)
Additional re-births include the Cape Coat and retro, 70’s silhouettes. If you follow GingerSnaps, you know how important both of those are to my current wardrobe– Hooray for Fall! (Well… let’s do a nice long summer first.)
Incidentally, “Muffs” have spent a lot of time in the headlines as Cameron Diaz praised her pubes in her new Body Book and American Apparel did the unthinkable by featuring controversial mannequins with full frontal public hair. I don’t know how long ago the Muff went out of style, but let’s just say… it’s been awhile!
The Muff wasn’t the only throwback debuted at the BCBG 25th Anniversary Collection; models in relaxed, slightly 70’s silhouettes also re-introduced coulottes and confirmed that Cape Coats are hanging around for another season. Triple Yay!
I am thanking the Fashion Gods for the news on Cape Coats, particularly, as I purchased at least twenty-two Vintage Trapeze/ Cape Coats last year during the height of my eBay Addiction. (See one of my favorite Colorful Cape Coats in this Colorful Coat OOTD Post that was featured on heartIFB.com a few months ago.
There is no denying that the designers behind BCBG Max Azria create the most “wearable” collection of New York Fashion Week. Unlike many of the labels shown at Fashion Week, BCBG is a line that has been a part of my wardrobe since long before I moved to New York. They are always able to balance fun, flattering pieces with just the right amount of fashion-forward edge and style. As a result, you can wear a BCBG piece from day to night, from work to a weekend away. And because the designs are classic, they always stand the test of time. I have BCBG pieces from college that I still wear regularly today. Below I linked a few of my favorite posts that have included pieces by BCBG Max Azria.
My favorite piece on GingerSnaps by the label is in this OOTD Post: a BCBG Black-Fringe Blazer paired with Balenciaga Scuba Pants.
Last Spring, I posted this OOTD featuring a beaded blouse by BCBG Max Azria paired with a suede, fish-tail skirt.
I wore a floor-length, vintage, beaded vest over a white, long-sleeve BCBG shirt in this post on Priests and Bell-Bottoms.
Without further adieu, her are my favorite highlights from the BCBG Max Azria Fall 2014 Collection from New York Fashion Week!
You can’t love EVERYTHING from a collection, and I always like to be candid by including what I wasn’t crazy about from each show. One trend that is HUGE for Fall is what I call the “over volume coat”. BCBG did a take on the trend with with this oversized Tibetan Sheep Wool (I am assuming) Coat. In my opinion, even for the fashion-forward New Yorker, this coat is WAY too much volume… More on this trend in the coming reviews. Stay tuned!
