Butterflies, Sheer Drama, and Show Girls combined to burn the memory of the recent Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Collection at Paris Couture Fashion Week. Reaction summarized: Gaultier. Never. Disappoints. Butterflies were the most pervasive theme of the show, but we also saw dramatic sheer elements in gowns with panels of mesh, and feathered head dresses stacked on top the heads of models that were straight out of a show in Las Vegas. It was no surprise that burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, famous for her bombshell pin-up curves, was the shows celebrity surprise.
One of the many reasons I wait on pins and needles each year for the debut of Jean Paul Gaultier latest Haute Couture Collection, is because he ALWAYS tops his looks with striking head pieces. We have seen vintage tilt hats, feathered plumes, and a myriad of avant-garde fascinators, but this years delicate winged creations veiled the face in the most fantastic, eye-catching-yet-demure way imaginable. While I have yet to get my hands on a Gaultier head dress, I am certain it is destined to happen… In the meantime, I will drool over them with the rest of you
