Christian Dior, Gypsies, and My New Favorite Color

This summer, more than ever, I have seen women incorporating bikini tops into their every day wear and even into their night wear.  This outfit includes a striped bikini top and, some how, in a Fashion Forward City like NEW YORK, I think it works.  I wore it on one of those weird pseudo-warm, pseudo-freezing summer/winter days we have been having recently.  Guess this Global Warming stuff wasn’t a joke.

The head scarf has me feeling a little like a Gypsy.  While I love the “idea” of this style (and Miss Alyona had me wondering if I could pull it off like she does IN THIS PREVIOUS POST), I haven’t quite figured it out for myself.  I’m sure it isn’t helping that we shot this in the Seaport.  Hmmm, Mrs. Captain Hook, anyone?

The vintage 80’s leather skirt is in one of my favorite colors: purple-ish blue.  Not ironically, my new Dior Bag is also in this favorite color.  I find that, in general, selecting accessories in in-between colors makes them all the more versatile.  And, when investing in something you will wear as much as a handbag, color can be the difference between the occasional wear or the grab-and-go-everyday staple.  Purple-y blue also has a year-round super power.  Even in a leather medium, I have proven you can wear this skirt any day of the week (or time of year).

Accessories include vintage earrings and necklace.  The necklace was a find and gift from my mother… what a lucky, lucky girl am I?  It is by Juliana and is very rare to find in the Topaz color.  The earrings are also vintage and the rings are by H&M, while the cat ring is from The W Boutique.  Headscarf by Forever 21.

The handbag is a new piece I got for summer.  It is by Christian Dior and has this amazing blue/purple color.  I wasn’t sure about it at first, but now I love it and realize that it goes with almost everything.  The umbrella is vintage.  There is nothing that brightens up a rainy day like a fabulous floral umbrella.

The shoe is by Chrissie Morris.  There is something about the yellow and purple color scheme that just makes me really happy.
