Easter Weekend Diary: Spring Coats, Christian Dior, and a Vintage Store Obsession

Easter Weekend started out with a sun-beam filled bang, but ended up a rainy reason to do some Spring Cleaning.  As Easter marks the beginning of Spring, I figured I would share a few of my favorite additions to my Spring Wardrobe: this fantastic 1960’s Spring Coat, a vibrant and colorful Midi Dress from ASOS, and, of course, a vintage Christian Dior Cloche Hat.  Coincidentally, each piece represents one of my very favorite places to shop: Jolly Gargoyle Vintage eStore (www.jollygargoyle.com), www.ASOS.com , and my very favorite designer, Christian Dior (respectively).

Starting with the Vintage 1960’s Swing Coat from Jolly Gargoyle, this brilliant blue color makes any outfit Spring appropriate.  The “Princess Trench Cut” has a long length that is mindful of the lingering cool temperatures typical of March, April, and (sometimes even) May.  The dash of fur makes this coat luxe enough to wear day and night.

Sara at JOLLYGARGOYLE is a vintage addicts dream seller.  The love of Vintage Fashion goes back generations for Sara; her grandmother was a Pioneer in Vintage Fashion and owned one of first stores of it’s kind.  Collectors of Vintage Fashion, like myself, are a special kind of customer.  We are so addicted to the one-of-a-kind hunt, that we seldom share the secret places we shop! Best Friends included!!  My enthusiasm to share her store with you is proof that I respect and admire Saras’ eye for exceptional Vintage.  On top of it, she runs one of the FEW honest e-stores on eBay.  Though I was only introduced to it a few months ago, Jolly Gargoyle has quickly become one of my favorite places to shop.  Check her out at www.JollyGargoyle.com

The Dress is longer than I usually wear once the warmer weather comes around, but this fabric is so bright and cheerful, I just can’t get enough!  I purchased it (recently) from www.ASOS.com, an e-retailer that started in the UK.  It is a MUST SHOP if you aren’t already introduced.  Their designs are unique and sourced mostly from the UK (although they have a warehouse in Brooklyn for speedy US Shipping).  It is also reasonably priced and often photographed on real people or “real-ish”-sized models.  GO LOOK NOW!

Finally, Spring marks the beginning of Hat Season (though I wear them in every season).  CHRISTIAN DIOR Vintage Hats are some of my very favorite to collect.  This one has brightly colored feathers in the most perfect blues and purples.  I challenge you (if you don’t already) to take Easter as inspiration and go to a local vintage store or Millinery Shop and try on hats for your Spring wardrobe.  It is the best way to add a touch of Classic Style, and a fail-proof way of attracting (the right) kind of attention in the Spring and Summer.

Just give it a try, you’ll see :)

I accessorized with both vintage and non-vintage pieces.  The top necklace is a beautiful vintage rhinestone piece I bought on La Brea in Los Angeles.  I layered it above a cheap-y from Forever 21.  The earrings are vintage bought on eBay.

The belt is from Forever 21.  I always check out their accessories section because they have the best cheap belts, earrings, and purses.  This purse is handmade from my trip to India a few years back.  It is ornate and delicate, like most of Indian fashion.  One of my favorite apps is the Vogue360 App, featuring a daily photo from editorials in VogueIndia.  India has incredible, inspirational fashion and VogueIndia is well worth the download.

The shoe is embellished with a number of vintage clip-on earrings.  You can see more about this DIY idea here:
