Naughty Nautical: Two Outfits, One Trend

_IMG1010

You might have noticed  that things have gotten sexier on GingerSnaps lately.  With the intense summer heat, it has only seemed appropriate to share looks built around things like bikinis, sheer summer cover-ups, and lingerie.  Today, however, I am sharing an OOTD that is downright naughty, nautical that is.  The Nautical Trend is one of my favorites for summer; wearing stripes and boat-necked tees never seems to get old.  In addition, nautical is an easy trend to take from summer into fall; just switch out your sandals and boat shoes for camel-colored, knee-high boots.

Here to help me show you two different takes on the same Nautical Trend, is my adorable lithe sister-I-never-had: Sasha.

The first nautical outfit (to the left), is a more traditional take on the trend.  She is wearing one of my favorite retro revivals of this past spring: the clear raincoat.  This trend was especially timely, as this summer has been filled with copious amounts of rain for us New Yorkers.  While I found this clear raincoat at TopShop, it seems every store from Urban Outfitters to Zara has had a version.  My favorite thing about this one is its red, blue, and yellow piping along the seams.  Underneath her adorable raincoat, Sasha is wearing a favorite top of mine: a red fringe cropped top by Versace.  I paired the top with cheapie blue-and-white striped shorts by Forever 21.  Keeping with the nautical feel, I chose to accessorize Sashas outfit with a red, white and blue braided necklace, vintage red earrings, and the most perfect navy blue vintage beret from Italy.  The final touch is a pair of sky-high brown sandal that gives length to her already long legs.  Naughty perfection!

For my second look today, I chose to style myself in a funkier take on the traditional Nautical Trend.  The first way I switched up the nautical trend for my outfit, was by stepping outside the typical patriotic color scheme by adding yellow.  I love the large floral print in my vintage 1970’s dress.  Next, I chose out-of-the box accessories, like my lemon purse and red, caged epaulets.  These epaulets are the second piece I have shared from my own collection I launched this summer.  While these are ideal for burning man costumes, todays outfit is just one example of how you can also incorporate them in your every-day.  The remainder of my accessories are vintage.
