Waaaaaaay back in May, I hosted my friends at the beautiful Oheka Castle for my birthday bash. Here is the first of many photos from the day of festivities. Originally built by Otto Khan, this was originally his families home and actually served as F. Scott Fitzgeralds’ inspiration for the house in The Great Gatsby! When it was operating as such, it was the second largest private residence in the United States. The grounds are as striking as the castle itself, as you can see in these photos of my best friend Eleonora. I was supposed to be at The Kentucky Derby for my birthday (a lifelong dream of mine), so the styling was all done in the spirit of the Derby.
This dress is one of my favorites. It is modest enough to wear for the work day, but the beautiful button-down detailing of the back and white piping make it intriguing and fashion-forward. It is perfect for a summer wedding, but the navy tone takes it all the way thrugh the indian summer of Fall (like, today for instance!).
Eleonora could not look more regal and chic… and just hours after running a triathlon! Such a babe. And as Mis Coco Chanel says…
“Dress shabbily and the remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.”
From the top, I chose to accessorize with a very Kentucky Derby-esque vintage tilt hat. The pearl jewelry is also all vintage. I almost always pair navy with rich, camel colored acessories like the camel and gold-tone Christian Louboutin Shoes and vintage camel-colored Horse Handbag. For another example of how i style the shoes and purse, take a peek at this past post on Camel Accessories and Navy.
