This Thursday, I’m throwing it back to the middle of February for the first of my coverage of New York Fashion Week. It was FRIGID this year. So cold, in fact, that I barely stopped for photographers to grab a photo of me rushing around in the snow. Consequently, you will have to re-live Fashion Week through my selfies and photos with friends.
This Yellow and Black combination has a retro, mod feel. The jumper is vintage from the 1960’s, while the vintage tweed coat is probably from the 1970’s, but this outfit really is all about the details. Starting from the top, I found this magnificent Stephen Jones Hat at the booth of Spark Pretty Vintage at the Manhattan Vintage Show. I was immediately in love and I’m told it’s twin was bought by the incredible ladies at Idiosynchratic Fashionistas— ladies, you’re welcome to borrow the mate from me for a shoot anytime. This is my first hat by the incredible British milliner Stephen Jones… if you are not familiar, you should look him up right now! He often made creations for the late Isabella Blow, whom I consider one of the most inspiring Style Icons. My frames are from Michael Kors and my silver sphere of a purse was a find from a street market in Mumbai, India. For added drama, I stacked two earrings in the same hole (flowers are from Forever 21, while the longer ones are vintage). My necklace and daisy ring are also cheapies from Forever 21, while my gloves are cheapies from Zara. Finally, the knee high socks worn with the sky-high Balenciaga Oxfords give the look a school-girl feel.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the color combination of Yellow and Black. In fact, I have included some examples of how I have worn the combo in these links and in the photos following my outfit from Fashion Week.
