OOTD: 1930’s Dress

GingerSnaps 1930's OOTD 1

I seldom wear fashion from the 1930’s; it’s not that I am not a fan of 30’s fashion, but rather because the pieces are so rare to find in wearable condition.  The fact that today’s OOTD has two pristine vintage pieces from the 1930’s is truly special.

The first of these rarities is my semi-sheer, chiffon printed dress.  The silk chiffon fabric used in the 1930’s was so thin and delicate, that is often takes on a semi-sheer character as it ages and, more often than not, has started to deteriorate by 2016.  Sometimes you buy a piece that is incredible, knowing that it will likely fall apart after only one or two wears; only the truest lovers of vintage know the price you sometimes pay to wear a beautiful, yet antiquated garment for it’s very last time.  On occasion you find a dress like the one I am wearing today, however, that has been impeccably cared for and has somehow stood the test of time.  The fabric is remarkably un-torn and the colors in the print have maintained their full vibrance.

The second of my 1930’s pieces is my straw hat.  Hats like these were popular to wear during the summer in the 30’s, either at the back of your head or tilted to the side, like I am wearing mine today.  I have also styled this hat with a tulle skirt and oxford shirt, you can see photos of that OOTD taken in Washington Square Park last spring HERE.  In addition to my 1930’s straw hat, I also chose to accessorize with a Straw Snail Novelty Bag from Kate Spade.  You might remember another way I styled this adorable Straw Snail Novelty Bag from THIS post featuring 1970’s Suede.  The Green Suede Skirt I am wearing in the outfit is actually for sale on my eBay store, you can check out the listing HERE.  For more amazing, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, check out all of my listings HERE on ShopGingersCloset.com.

The final touches to my 1930’s OOTD are dangly green earrings, and two different pairs of shoes.  The first pair are brown suede by Zara; I love the funky triangular shape of the heel.  The second pair are one of my favorite pairs of shoes by Charlotte Olympia, made of green camouflage satin with a funky brown bear on the toe!
