Vintage OOTD: Broken-Down Trolleys, Betsey Johnson, and Time Travel

image

Saks Fifth Avenue

I first discovered this beautiful, broken-down trolley in Red Hook, Brooklyn my first year living in NYC.  Like most New Yorkers, Red Hook means “The Home of Ikea” and making the trek out to this lovely part of Brooklyn is a necessary evil at least once a year. (Check out this Nautical Look  from my summer shoot on the Ikea Ferry!)

If you’ve been lucky enough to see something other than Ikea in Red Hook, you have probably come across this Trolley.  You also would know that climbing inside actually is not “allowed”; a little flirting, playing dumb, and allowing the guy in charge to take a shot of his own for Instagram: voila!  Permission granted :)

I finally fulfilled my desire to shoot on the Trolley this past summer, and the result are some of my favorite photos to date!  The outfit I am wearing has some incredible elements:  The fringe top by Versace is such a show stopper.  It stands out so much, in fact, that it is difficult to find the right bottom with which to pair.  I choose an equally show-stopping black pencil skirt with ruffle detail that is actually made of LATEX!  I found it while on a long layover in Amsterdams’ famous Red-Light District.  The boutique is called Absolute Danny and they specialize in the most incredible high-end latex.  It is a sure-fire conversation piece every time I wear it.  The sweater is by Betsey Johnson and has a cameo of Marilyn Monroe on the back– so cute!!

Betsey Johnson is one of my FAVORITE Designers; I am extremely excited that she has come on board Ginger Snaps as an advertiser…

Accessories

My accessories include a corseted belt from Kiki de Montparnasse (this belt was an incredible investment, you can see how I wore it over a Vintage Christian Dior Polka-Dot Dress Here), a vintage hat and necklace, fishnets, and delicate Christian Louboutin shoes.
